Thicken its CO2 blanket, and Earth overheats. Featured

If you thicken Earth's CO2 blanket, the planet gets warmer.

Variation: Add more blankets at night, and you overheat. Add more CO2, and the earth overheats.

Notes: CO2 and other greenhouse gases trap heat radiating from the earth, much as a blanket traps the heat radiating from your body at night.  Without CO2, earth would be frozen and uninhabitable, like Mars.    At the other extreme, way too much CO2 would turn earth into a furnace, like Venus.

Earth's unique balanced atmosphere makes life possible.

I really like this analogy. For a couple of years now, I have even used it in my own personal climate change power point that I show to friends and interested parties. I took pictures of my niece and nephew with a blanket over them to show the natural green house effect. I then took more pictures as I kept piling blankets on top of them so show how climate change may effect future generations. I have received lots of positive feedback from friends from showing those pictures. By the way, thank goodness my niece and nephew did not feel too hot from all blankets I piled on top of them also.

Is your power point online? I think others might find the "too many blankets" demo with the kids useful....
