"We depend on the natural world... for our very sanity"
Bite Notes: David Attenborough is a world-famous naturalist and broadcaster who was speaking on 18th Jan 2012 at an event in London for the World Land Trust, a charity for which he is patron.
He added that in the past the attitude has been simply to move on when a resource is used up:
"We've been grossly extravagant. We've been brought up in the time when if one bit of land is ruined we get another. I think it's about time we dealt with this in a sensible way and we don't waste land."

The boundaries of "self" are defined by contact with the "non-self", or the "other." Living only in a 100% man-made world is like living in a crazy-making Hall of Mirrors.
Deprived of contact with the "non-self," you become isolated, boundaries blurr, narcissism expands, and you get a bit crazy. The myth of King Midas, Martin Buber's I and Thouand Bill McKibben's End of Nature come to mind.
OK, that's my "Deep Thought" :) for the week!
