Extended Quote: "Historically, there is a saying in the scientific community: every great scientific truth goes through three phases: first people deny it, second they say it conflicts with the Bible, third they say they knew it all along." — Neil deGrasse Tyson, American astrophysicist and science communicator.
Notes: American astrophysicist, Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson debated climate change contrarian and former GM Executive Bob Lutz on the HBO TV show, Real Time with Bill Maher on March 2, 2012.
Besides the above quote, Tyson said this about climate change:
"If you do not want to believe all the scientists, (fine). I have another way for you to approach the problem. You can take your cue from the rest of the animal and plant kingdom. Animals are migrating at different rates, plants are migrating north that have never migrated north before because they can now sustain the warmth that is there. There are plants that are getting fertilized earlier than before, the migration patterns have shifted. Nature is telling us. Nature already knows the answer to what we are arguing about. That is where I get my cues."
"By the way, I think conserving the environment is conservative. Isn't that what conservative means?"
Dr. Tyson then asks Bob Lutz: "Are you prepared to put your money where your ideas are?"
Bob Lutz: "Absolutely."
Dr. Tyson: "Here is the experiment. You take all the scientists who authored all these papers (on climate change) and get them to pool all their money to invest in companies that would benefit from global warming. Then take all the people who are in denial of global warming and take all their money and invest in companies that would presume there is no global warming. And I predict you will all go broke in the next 50 years."
As Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson and most other scientists would tell you, it is not smart to bet against the reality of climate change.
